Robin Weigert (Teddi Bruin) Reveals Why CBS Invited Her Back to Tracker TV Season 3
“Tracker” is an action drama inspired by the novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, focusing on Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), a lone bounty hunter with excellent survival and tracking skills. In season 1, Teddi Bruin, played by Robin Weigert, is one of Colter’s two handlers, along with his wife, Velma (Abby McEnany). The duo not only work on cases for Colter but also support him from afar, providing emotional balance and humanity to the story. Teddi, with her past as a tour manager for rock bands, brings a unique perspective: strong, sharp, yet also emotional. Teddi and Velma’s same-sex marital relationship is beloved by viewers for its authenticity and representation of diversity on network television.

However, Teddi’s absence from season 2 left fans stunned. In the season 2 premiere, “Out of the Past,” Velma revealed that Teddi had left to take care of her mother and the two had broken up. This explanation, while plausible in the story, left a sense of void. Teddi was more than just a manager, she was part of Colter’s supportive “family,” providing a bond between the characters. Her departure not only affected Velma, but also changed the dynamic of the group, as Reenie (Fiona Rene) stepped in to fill Teddi’s shoes. But is Teddi’s story truly over?

Robin Weigert’s departure before season 2 has sparked much speculation. No official reason has been given by CBS or Weigert, leaving fans in a whirlwind of theories. Some sources have suggested that Weigert, a veteran of the show who starred as Calamity Jane on Deadwood, may have wanted to pursue more challenging new projects. In fact, she has been cast in American Dog, a dark comedy in which she plays a “crazy” cop – a role that seems more suited to her deep, multi-dimensional acting style. Her role as Teddi on Tracker, while important, was limited to home scenes, mostly filmed over phone calls, which may not have been enough to satisfy Weigert’s creative ambitions.
However, CBS’s decision to bring Weigert back for season 3 came as a huge surprise. According to sources close to the show, CBS realized that Teddi’s absence left a void not only in the plot but also in the hearts of viewers. Several social media posts, such as one on Reddit, pointed out that while Teddi wasn’t a central character, she still added a unique “flavor” to the show. Perhaps the showrunners realized that letting Teddi go without a satisfying conclusion was a mistake, especially since her relationship with Velma still had potential to be explored.
CBS’s move to bring back Robin Weigert isn’t just a fan-pleasing move, it’s also an opportunity to expand Tracker’s story. While there’s no official confirmation of Teddi’s role in season 3, which is set to premiere on October 19, 2025, sources say she could make a guest appearance or even return as a main character. One possible scenario is that Teddi returns to resolve a conflict with Velma, perhaps through a case involving Colter that she was inadvertently drawn into. This would not only give her a chance to flesh out her relationship with Velma, but would also allow Weigert to showcase her acting chops in more action-packed or emotional scenes.
Furthermore, Teddi’s return could be part of CBS’s plan to revamp Tracker after the massive success of its first two seasons. With the introduction of characters like Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles) in season 3, Colter’s family history and personal relationships will continue to be explored. Teddi, as a mother figure to Colter, could play a key role in tying these elements together. Will she return to reconcile with Velma, or will she just appear briefly to close out her story? The answer remains a mystery, but it’s this uncertainty that has kept fans glued to Tracker.
