Although Stephanie Arcila will no longer be a series regular in Fire Country season 4, the premiere’s episode title proves that Gabriel’s role in the show is not necessarily over, either. Fire Country’s Bode and Gabriela have been put through the wringer throughout the show’s first three seasons, and for a while, it seemed the two were destined to end up together.

However, fate repeatedly intervened, and the couple could never quite get the timing right. Whether it was Bode’s return to prison, a fire at the base, or a near-drowning, the couple were both drawn together and pulled apart by disasters that constantly ensured they never found enough stable and consistent peace to build a relationship.

Although Fire Country’s season 3 finale didn’t include her exit in its action-packed story, series star Stephanie Arcila revealed she will no longer be a series regular in Fire Country season 4 after season 3 ended. At first, this seemed to prove that Bode and Gabriela’s romance was finished for good, since Bode is currently seeing Audrey James.

Although Gabriela is moving out of town instead of Fire Country season 4 killing her off, the title of season 4’s premiere seems to provide even more fuel for speculation among fans of Bode and Gabriela’s messy relationship. The episode is called “Goodbye for Now,” which heavily implies that Arcila’s character won’t be leaving for good.

Instead, it seems like the show’s creators are keeping the door open for Gabby’s return when Fire Country season 4 premieres on October 17 on CBS. This is understandable considering the dramatic ending of season 3’s finale, which seemed to kill off a major recurring star. Fire Country can’t put Bode through too many heartbreaks at once.

Speaking to ScreenRant’s Rachel Foertsch, Arcila herself said, “I think that they’ll always have love for each other. It is healthy to not rush into things. It is healthy to explore other avenues as well and explore yourself. … I think finding themselves and knowing who they are in these new dynamics and having that breather is also a good thing.”

Thus, it seems as if the actor herself is unsure of the couple’s future, and Gabby’s exit will not necessarily spell a permanent end to their love affair. This could be good for the series, as Gabriela and Bode share a chemistry that is tough to deny. It’s this bond that has carried them through three tumultuous seasons so far.

Bode will need time to get over Fire Country season 3’s promised Leone tragedy, so it could be a good thing that Gabby is out of town for now. This means that Arcila’s character might return at just the right time when Bode needs her most, turning an apparent exit into Fire Country season 4’s best twist so far.
